This is a quick one for my eighth Christmas make: candles made in half orange skins. I saw the idea on Pinterest and thought I would just like to give it a try. It’s very simple and I just loved the mixture of scents.
To make, I cut an orange in half and scooped out the flesh (I saved it to make my favourite orange and banana fruit salad). I melted some tea lights and old candle stubs in paper cake cases placed inside bun tins in a low oven for about 5-10 minutes.
While that was happening, I took some cloves and pushed them into the pith around the wide of the orange. It was just thick enough to slide them in.
When the wax was melted, I carefully took a wick out of a tea light with tweezers and put one into each of the orange halves. I poured in the liquid wax, about three quarters of the way up and straightened the wick. It took about half an hour to set, and my orange candle was all set to light.
