A planter makes a beautiful last minute gift, and it’s not too late to bag a few cyclamen and some ivy to create this pretty white and green bowl of loveliness. Take an old bowl (I used this copper one from a flea market in the summer). Decant the plants, and put some potting compost into the bowl.
Position the plants, then when you’re happy, push them into the compost. Fill in any gaps, and top up the bowl until the compost covers the top of the rootball. Water in thoroughly.
Other variations might include narcissi paper whites in a white or brown pudding bowl.
Or hyacinths in recycled golden syrup or treacle tins. I gathered moss from the woods to put on the top of the soil.
