After a bit of delay, my tea towels are back in stock. I took them to my parents’ lovely garden to photograph them. It’s here that I have established a small cutting garden, and over the last few months, I have been planting, weeding and watering. I am growing some of the flowers that inspire my paintings. I should add that my mum and dad are very good gardeners and have been out here during all sorts of health ups and downs over the past year. My patch is just a very small bed – and I can’t take credit for any of the flowers shown here!
I love colour, and my choice of flowers is not subtle. I like zinnias, sweet peas, lilies, cornflowers, nigella, cosmos and dahlias, all in a great big muddle. So that’s what I’ve been growing. I think my entire cutting patch, which is about 1.5m by 4m has cost around £50, as I grew quite a lot from seed back at my house, or from little plug plants from my local market. I will do a separate post about it, as I have been photographing my plot since planting it up in May, and it’s interesting to see the progress and how little it can cost to create one.
Here’s a small bunch that I picked over the weekend. And my sweet peas …
It’s been a lovely project to do. I think we have all enjoyed the results.
No matter what else is going on, flowers are uplifting. The miracle of growth is exactly that – a miracle!
I think the tea towels look right at home here.
